The Veil Sanity: How to Restore It & Not Die
Where it drains
- The maze at night, the Weeping Crypt, the Cyst, Scorch Basin, the Castle and most of the Pale drain it passively.
- Manaloth in the Pale has no campfire and its pylon gives none back.
- Safe: the Glade, Echohold and the other towns, Sky's Reach, the blue mushroom area.
How to restore it
- Fight next to a campfire: you regain sanity while standing beside it, and mobs still come to you.
- Runner outposts count as large campfires and their NPCs fight with you.
- Sanity potions from Calvin (15 Silver, random potion type) or from the early main quest.
- Leave through a pylon; towns restore it.
Sanity as a PvP weapon
Good Game Gaming's meta kit targets sanity instead of HP: Duskwing counter into Cultist domain (15 sanity every 3 seconds plus a stun) and Gloomhook's 20-slash poke (1 sanity per slash) end a fight against 150 HP prestige players faster than damage does, especially at night when they are already draining. Bring resistance to blind and keep a potion bound.

Sanity FAQ
What happens at zero sanity?
You die instantly, whatever your HP. Deepshaken calls it the one thing you cannot recover from mid-fight.
How do I restore sanity?
Stand near any campfire (you do not have to sit), use a runner outpost, drink a sanity potion, or leave the maze. Some zones such as the blue mushroom area do not drain it at all.
Do enemies drain sanity?
Players can: Cultist's domain drains 15 every 3 seconds, Duskwing's counter drains it, Gloomhook removes 20 over its combo and Blacklash 20 to 25. Nightfall on Veilborne costs you 10% insanity.
Where can I buy sanity potions?
Calvin in the Glade sells random potions for 15 Silver; the early main quest also hands out a few. Deepshaken stocked 13 before the Pale because Manaloth has no campfires.
