The Veil Mastery Oaths & Accessory Slots Explained

Why your legendary does nothing

Every legendary and above weapon needs its Mastery Oath before it answers you. Good Game Gaming recorded the trainers after a rumour spread that any legendary could be unlocked at the gladiator outside the Veil; that is wrong. There are three oaths, one per damage type, and you hold one at a time.

The three trainers

Melee: Valor, the War Emperor, in the Coliseum. From the merchant, go through the gate in front of you and hug the right until the Coliseum. Hand him any legendary melee weapon (dagger, sword, greatsword, trident), then deal 25,000 melee damage. Your oath is set to melee.

Magic: Thunder, in the blue mushroom area. Enter through the Stylist-side gate and hug the left. The area does not drain sanity, so go at night. Bring the legendary magic weapon before you start.

Summons: the Summoner in the Sky, on Sky’s Reach. Reach the island by handing any gem to the crystal-headed NPC in the Shimmering Sanctum (claim the central obelisk once you arrive). One legendary summon item is carried per player until the oath is taken.

Reset: Carvos, in the Castle. Second floor, back left. From the runners in the Glade, hug the left to reach the castle; its library and theater are also the best loot rooms there, and Carvos is a two-for-one trip.

The Scourge of Disease is the exception: its mastery unlocks in the Pale Beyond, per the Fandom weapon page. Weapon-by-weapon requirements are on the weapons page.

Accessory slots

You start with four accessory slots. The fifth is the reward for beating the Cell of Life, the final main-quest boss; there is no NPC or purchase for it (Radex, Good Game Gaming). Unequip accessories from the information tab’s fourth icon.

Slot fillers worth farming, per Pot Guy: Magma Stone (burn on everything), Necronomical Scroll (+2 summons, -10% resistance), Fabled Crown (party buff), then the legendaries Vampire Talisman (10% lifesteal, Pale Beyond chests) and Rampaging Red Cage (stacking universal damage for melee and mages). All are listed with sources on the items page.
